Serena is back this week for more on Instagram for your balloon business!

I promised you in my last post that we would explore using Instagram for your balloon business in more depth. So let’s dive in!

Instagram is “the” platform to be on right now if you have a creative business. It is highly visual and has built-in tools and compatible software that make it easy to SELL! People spend an hour+ each day scrolling the platform.

I ask all of my clients to choose two to three objectives for their Instagram. Here are a few ideas:

  • Showcase your products or services
  • Build your community
  • Increase awareness of your brand
  • Showcase your company culture and values
  • Advertise to potential customers
  • Increase brand loyalty
  • Share company news and updates
  • Inspire your followers with ideas
  • Educate your followers about your products, services and processes

I know it’s hard to narrow it down, but it will help you to focus. These can change over time, so just start with what feels good or needed right now.

Once you establish your objectives, you can decide what kind of content makse sense to share, based on the goal. If you want to increase brand loyalty, for example, you’ll want to focus on sharing more about you and/or your team and share real customer examples or testimonials.

If you want to showcase your products/services, you’ll want to craft content carefully. Make sure that it shares each of your core offers, possible upgrades, price points and general information about the booking process.

Once you have a better understanding of what types of things you want to share, you can determine the aesthetic that works best for your brand.

There is a school of thought that says you have to plan visually, then work your content into that. The opposite would be to craft your content and then find images that work. Neither is right or wrong; it’s really about what is going to be “easiest” for you to execute. If you have a ton of imagery to work with, you may want to start with your photo selection. If you don’t, then knowing what you need to share will help you to fill those gaps with graphics, personal photos or quick snapshots.

The key is to get consistent and then refine your content. It doesn’t have to be perfect right away! It takes time to develop your social media campaign. I love looking at social media as a “campaign” because there are seasons when we need to be “on” and really push a specific goal. There are others where we simply  want to stay present and top of mind. Take the pressue off of being “ON” all the time and instead look at the milestones you need to reach. Think of the seasons of your business that you need to push and then decide what each month needs.

In a perfect world, you’re posting to your grid five times per week, with stories and reels at least a couple of times per week. Realistically, business owners don’t have the time, bandwidth or desire to show up the number of times the internet tells you to. Plus, those numbers are highly skewed toward the “influencer” set of profiles.

Next, get a scheduler! I HIGHLY recommend Planoly. This is going to help you to plan multiple days, weeks or even months of content. And if you have a business profile, you can even auto-post your content for the date + time that your followers are consuming content. Bonus, you can cross-post your content to Facebook with a simple click on a button. Tailwind and Later are also great options for planning and scheduling.
