Increase your confidence as a balloon business owner

Increase your confidence as a balloon business owner. Hi, I’m Joette Giardina, CBA aka Balloon Coach.  I have been earning my income full time from the balloon industry since 2003. Over the years I have investested tens of thousands of dollars on training and travel expenses to increase my skills and increase my confidence as a Balloon Business Owner.  I now have the pleasure of walking side by side with my friends and coaching clients in the balloon industry to support them as they grow their Thriving Balloon Business. The thing that gives me the most pleasure is when the Alumni from my training programs share their success stories. Today I would like you to meet Sheetal Kurup,  Events by Sheetal, Millburn, New Jersey. Written June 15, 2020 in Balloon Coach Community facebook group.

Sheetals Yard designs

I want to share some great and exciting news. I just hit $40,088.50 in sales yesterday. It took me a year last year to make that much and now in just 2 months and 15 days I have made this much money. Here is my story and hope this inspires you.

Sheetal and her Family I am a wedding and event planner, event designer ( fabric draping) and also a balloon professional. When the pandemic started and events were cancelled, I had nothing to do but to stay home , read books , finish my courses which I had paid for from other fields. For 15 days I did just that..but when I reached the module on Marketing in one of the courses, things just drastically changed for me.

I had a biggest mindset shift while doing the course specially the marketing module. Initially I didn’t like marketing at all and felt it to be icky, salesly . simply put I was not comfortable marketing about my services. But while I was on Marketing module of the Course and when I heard in the course that you are doing a great disservice to people if you don’t let them know about your talent and skills and how you can help them, thereby making a greater impact and change in their lives. When I heard this, something dramatically changed inside in me. I started thinking how can I help people right now in this pandemic with the current skills I have. Suddenly I realized YES, I can help people by providing balloons to their yard…I had been displaying balloons in my yards as part of the One Millions Bubbles project to cheer people in my community when the pandemic started so why not sell my services and provide balloons to people’s yard so they can have something colorful to look outside their window there by bringing them happiness and joy. At the Same time I had just stumbled on the yard art group on FB . I put the two together marketing mindset shift and Yard art balloons and took massive action . I immediately let people know that as a balloon artist I can help them in this pandemic.  I started advertising in FB groups , towns mom groups about how I can help provide yard balloons to families to help with birthdays, anniversaries, graduations Mother’s Day , father da , engagement etc . Everyone is stuck at home and no events are happening.  So by providing no contact yard balloons I can bring joy to families and their loved ones. I started advertising March end and from April 1st I have been flooded with orders. My business has just taken off..and I have been crazy busy with orders ever since .I have had total of 233 orders so far for yard balloons and more orders are coming in . The biggest shift in my sales number came when I spoke to Joette after having crossed $8000 sales the first few weeks of April and she told me to raise my prices to make more money without getting burnt out.

Joette & Sheetal at Promotions & Profits Orlando 2019

I did exactly that , Joette gave me the confidence that it was okay to raise my prices .. I followed her advice the Same night we were chatting … raised my prices and people are still booking me at my higher prices. I recently did a webinar in May with Joette and Sara and shared some of my story, my yard pictures and pricing. Do check it out when u get a chance. Attaching few recent pictures of my yard decor . Enjoy

Thank you Sheetal for sharing your journey with us! Do you feel inspired?

Balloon Boss Steps to be Resilient!

Balloon Boss here are steps to help you be Resilient! Resilience is defined as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. The ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape – elasticity.”  Do you feel like you are being stretched in ways you never dreamed would be possible? I know I am, but I’m determined to bounce back stronger than ever! Hi, I’m Joette Giardina, CBA  aka Balloon Coach.  Today I type this blog post from my home office while I’m unable to work as the Manager of the Party People Events retail balloon store in Auburndale, Florida that became my home away from home for 6 days a week since February of 2020.  Johnathon Gerber had just expanded from his 2,100 sq foot warehouse to more space in the building he rents and we now have a 5,000 sq foot headquarters that during this time of year we are typically our busiest – corporate events, proms, and social events. No balloons are being inflated due to events of over 10 people being cancelled due to coronavirus. For those of you who also are in shock over your business being shut down due to this situation, I want you to know I get it. I feel like I’m in the TV show the Twilight Zone.  I believe with all my heart this is a time that we can all focus in on the list of things we always say we would do, “If I only had time.” This week we found out that schools in our area are closed through the end of April.  My husband is a middle school 6th grade teacher and his new normal is teaching virtually on a laptop from our living room. The school board had to quickly adapt to keep students engaged in school and put new online resources to work.   Teachers are having to learn new technology and think creatively. As a Balloon Boss, you are a part of some of the most creative people I know in the world.  This is a time for us to stay connected, learn from each other and keep working ON ourselves and our business. I did a free webinar on Resilience, I encourage you to click here for some words of encouragement and tips to take action during this time. I have been in the balloon industry full time since 2003, through some really crazy times and I have seen our industry GROW and become stronger after difficult times.  I am confident that those of us who stay positive, focused on working on our business, adapt as needed and put structure into place during this time will come out stronger and ready to expand when events start being held again. 5 Ways to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone to Create Your Thriving Balloon Business

5 Ways to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone to Create Your Thriving Balloon Business

When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone and took a risk or did something you were not 100% confident about, in order to grow your balloon business? Do you ever hear a tip in a webinar, blog or social media post from another balloon or business professional and think to yourself, “I can’t do that!” I GET IT.   I’ve been there and face that battle on a daily basis. Some things come naturally to us and others take a bit more work. You must study and practice to get the same results as others with “natural skills.” Today I want to assure you that YOU can create the reality you want for the future, based on the action steps you take each day. If you have found the fear of, or lack of knowledge or skill in an area has held you back from growing your balloon business, here are 5 steps to get out of your comfort zone:
  1.  Write down your “why”.  Why is it that you want to have a Thriving Balloon Business?
  2. Write down the results you want from the income you produce from your balloon business.
  3. Write down the activities you have seen other growing companies do that you have been uncomfortable personally taking action on.
  4. Identify the first support person or employee that can  help you take your business to the next level.
  5. Reach out to a mentor, coach or training to increase your skills and confidence in the areas you struggle in.
This is the calendar quote that lead me to write today’s blog Do you hate doing paperwork and taxes?  Hire a CPA or bookkeeper. Do you have a fear of speaking in public?  Join a local Toastmasters group to improve your skills in public speaking. Are you uncomfortable in networking meetings?  Step Out of Your Comfort Zone! Research the local Chamber, ABWA, NAWBO or service organizations in your area and go out and build relationships with other business owners and business professionals in your community.  Locate your local SCORE program with business mentors and training. Do you have a hard time promoting your business?  Listen to the Webinar Replays and Marketing training in Balloon Boss Mastermind.  Practice doing the things that Joette and the other instructors have done to grow their business. When I started in the balloon industry in 2003, I didn’t realize all the growth steps I would need to take personally and professionally to grow the income that I desired. But I did not want to go back to working in the “corporate world.”  My desire to work for myself in the events industry was my driving force. To keep moving forward, I invested in training and surrounded myself by like minded business owners who encourage and support each other by sharing the journey. BalloonCoach.com resources and Balloon Boss Mastermind online and Balloon Boss Pro Summit (formerly Promotions & Profits Retreat) were created with YOU in mind.  To give you the encouragement, training and support that I wish I would of had access to back in 2003. Yesterday one of my balloon boss mastermind members stated that she had picked up the phone and made the outbound calls I had suggested to reach out to her target market.  At first she was nervous but by the third call she felt confident. Party People Events has now expanded their corporate headquarters to 5,000 square feet with a retail space Balloon Coach Joette is managing. We are inviting people to attend a small group behind the scenes training to have Johnathon Gerber serve as your mentor; to show you how he has set up systems to be a Balloon Boss and have his company run and serve clients without his direct contact.  Party People Events did over 1/2 a million in sales last year. People do business with those they know, like and trust.   If you would like help on how to build those relationships and how to put systems in place, check out the services available at BalloonCoach.com. Email Joette@ballooncoach.com with any questions on finding out which program would best meet you needs.  Typically Balloon Boss Mastermind is the first step, as it is online and available to you 24/7 Take one step forward today that your future self will thank you for. Balloon Boss: Create What You Wish Existed

Create what you wish existed, Balloon Boss! In 2003 when I started in the balloon industry full time, there was no Facebook or Instagram. Sharing the amazing designs created by balloon professionals around the world did not exist. Our industry was growing, but not in the way it is today. It is exciting to see how our industry is growing and thriving, thanks to increased training available online and hands on.  I invested in hands-on training from the get go. Starting from traveling 3 hours from my home in Lakeland, Florida to traveling across the country to attend large conventions.  I would then share what I learned with my clients when I returned home to educate them on what is possible and increase my customer base and full time in come from creating balloon decor. Many times when clients call us they are going to ask for what they know – often times asking for quotes on helium arrangements or a column or arch they found online.   As a Balloon Professional I realized my job is to ask some more details and then create new solutions they may of never known existed.   A quote I often refer to is “we don’t know what we don’t know”. Today I share a quote from a Daily calendar Create What you Wish Existed: “We each have the power to create what we wish existed when we are clear on what we want, and why we want it.” It’s so easy for us to become discouraged if we are facing obstacles personally or in business. For those of you currently feeling overwhelmed, I want to give bit of encouragement today. This week Party People Events just opened up our new Balloon Showroom, in our expanded headquarters in Auburndale, Florida.  Balloon Boss, Johnathon Gerber expanded from a 2,100 sq foot warehouse space to now 5,000 square feet to make room for storage, inflation in the studio by the crew, and a retail showroom for walk in customers. Plus, he has added  a conference room to meet with clients. This space also will hold small group hands-on and behind the scenes business building training. As the marketing manager and past owner of Party People Events, it is exciting to see this growth first hand.   A business I once ran from my home at $150,000 in sales when I sold to Johnathon Gerber in 2015, is now at over $600,000 a year in sales.  I know first hand what is possible when working with a team to create a strong business. We each have the power to create what we wish existed when we are clear on what we want, and why we want it.
Business wise: Years ago I wanted to make a link hot air balloon for a client, but there were no instructions available. So I built one and made my first download for BalloonCoach.com on how to make it that now people from around the world have used to recreate the design. I created what I wished existed, by taking time to figure out the design. I made something for a client to EXCEED their expectations and now that client is a repeat client who has brought us many substantial new clients.

Personally,

I have struggled with my weight since childhood. In 2018, I made a decision after my father passed away at 75, that I wanted to have a longer life than that. In 2 year,s have lost 96 pounds. I still have a continued weight loss journey, but a number that I used to think was impossible to shed is now gone! I feel so much better and have more energy to create amazing balloon decor and interact with our clients. My knees don’t hurt anymore climbing stairs and I don’t get out of breath like I used to. Create What you Wish Existed is a message I feel the need to share with you, my balloon family. I love hearing stories from those who take action from our BalloonCoach.com webinars, Balloon Boss Mastermind Group Coaching and training, and our unique hands on training in Florida to help you THRIVE personally and professionally.  Today know you do not have to travel the journey to make your dreams reality alone.  If I can make my dreams come true so can you!

The “secret sauce” to success is:

  • Mindset.   We Create the things we Believe to be true!
  • Surround yourself by Positive, motivated people!
  • Educate yourself on the things you do not know.
  • Take action daily to move forward no matter the obstacles you face
I encourage YOU today if you are currently facing an obstacle that may seem like you are STUCK.

Take time to write a plan:

  • Why is it that you are in the Balloon Industry?
  • What do you want to do to improve your life and others?
  • Create your action steps for growing your thriving balloon business, to help you reach those personal and professional goals.
If you would like support and training on your path to success email Joette@ballooncoach.com to schedule a 10 free 10 minute consultation to see what program would meet your current needs.

Balloon Suite – What Makes It Different From Other Website Options

One of the top struggles I have had personally as a balloon business owner, and that many of my monthly subscribers share with me is their difficulty in making decisions on technology and creating a solid website to promote their balloon business. As creative balloon decorators, many times the tech stuff is a foreign language. I was delighted a few years ago that one of my Passport to Success members, Brandon Turpin from Utah, let me know he was developing a resource to help balloon professionals create their websites via Balloonsuite.com.  Brandon then provided a free webinar to answer a long list of questions most asked by members and plus a great webinar on generating customers online. Most recently, Brandon traveled from Utah to Orlando, Florida as a sponsor and instructor at Promotions & Profits Retreat 2019.  During the workshop, I had rave reviews from several attendees as to how Brandon helped them outside of classes during “tech talk” round tables to help them with their tech troubles. Today I asked Brandon to serve as a guest blogger to help those of you who did not meet him in person in Orlando –  to get to know more about the services he offers, and understand he speaks both balloon and tech, which is a unique combination in a website developer! Welcome, Brandon! Hey guys, it’s Brandon here. I wanted to share a quick post with everyone on what the difference is between Balloon Suite, and other website options. I am not naive enough to say, no one can be successful on another platform. With the right skills and amount of work, you can be successful on any platform. However, I am going to explain why I think that Balloon Suite may be the best option for you… And why I think it is! A common question we get is  “I have a site currently with [Insert Company Name Here], why would I use Balloon Suite?” Or “[Insert Company Name Here] has a little better price, why would I pay more?”. Honestly, I love these questions and could go on all day about why Balloon Suite will be the best option for your business. But I will try and keep it to a few paragraphs, so I do not lose you!

Built For Balloon Artists, By Balloon Artists

One of the best reasons to go with Balloon Suite vs other companies is your site is going to be set up from a company that knows your business. We know the difference between a standard garland arch and organic balloon arch. Customers send in a Pinterest picture and have no idea what its called. Having taken hundreds of phone calls from customers looking for balloon decor, and we know what they are looking for when they go to your website. We spent 3 years organizing and building the layout of our service, based on what works with customers. Each industry is different, and having someone with experience in yours, is an advantage that will be hard to find elsewhere. Every element we have on our site is placed in a way that is there for better conversions. Why do we have a phone number and order button in the header of every page? Because that is what you want customers to do…. call or order! And we tested it. We know that having it there, resulted in more calls, and more business. Our websites are designed and laid out with your success in mind.

Digital Business Card? Or Successful Online Presence?

There are a lot of customers that have a website. Many of those customers are the same customers that are struggling to find business to take the leap from part time, to full time. At Balloon Suite, we do more than provide you with a website. We have organized and structured it to give you the best chances of showing up in search engines. We have experience in ONLINE SUCCESS and try to help our customers turn their website from a digital business card, to a successful online presence that generates leads. Having a successful online presence is about a lot more than just having a website. We know what local businesses need, and we know what needs to be done for Balloon Professionals to be successful online. We currently have many services to help you with your online success, and many new resources for our clients coming out that will help even more. If you have a question about SEO or PPC, you can ask us, and we will do our best to help you be successful online. Our motto is: “We do not want you to worry about how much your website costs, but how much your website makes you.” When you turn your website from an expense to an asset, it changes your business.

Balloon Website For Balloon Professionals

As Balloon Suite continues to grow, we are ever-increasing our services and what we offer. Each of our services is centered around the balloon professional. If there are services that we do not have and you think are needed, what we develop comes from your input in what you would like to see. We are more than just a website company. We are growing a suite of services for balloon professionals to help them have a successful business.

Wrap Up

I told you I would keep it to a few sentences, so let’s wrap this up! When I started my balloon business over 4 years ago. I knew what to do to be successful online. I would see so many people on Facebook groups talking about how they are not able to find customers, they are not making money or want to take the leap from part to full time. Every time I would see someone struggling, I would find their page and check out their website. 99% of the time I would think to myself, if I could just give you the information I have in my head, I could show you how to make that leap you are struggling to make. That is how Balloon Suite started. No matter how big or small your website; If you offer deliveries or not. I started Balloon Suite to help you succeed, not just get a website. 2020 is going to be about YOU! How can we help you succeed? We are currently developing new services and resources for your balloon business. If you want more information on Balloon Suite, Click Here to view our website If you want to be informed of all the changes coming out. Fill out the form to be added to our mailing list. (We may even send you some tips on how to be successful online as well!) Thank you Brandon for being today’s guest blogger! Packing List for Promotions & Profits Retreat Orlando 2019!

Tips to prepare to make the most out of your investment

Start your packing for Promotions & Profits Retreat Orlando 2019,  focused on creating new systems for success and hands on learning produced by BalloonCoach.com One of the TOP things to do to prepare to make the most out of your investment is to prepare to be PRESENT in the classes as much as possible.  That means, eliminating distractions so you can be in the moment, learning and creating new systems.   Take time now to set up who will be taking care of your business and family responsibilities while you are away. Prepare to reduce distractions:
  • Assign someone to answer your business phone and email
  • If you do not have a person to answer clients, put a new phone message and email response that you are out of town at training and will return messages __________ you set the deadline of when you plan to be able to get back with them.
  • Make a plan for family members or friends to take care of your kids or family while you are away.  Make sure if forms at school need to be filled out for someone new to pick up your child in case of emergency those forms are filled out.
  • Set a plan with your family or loved ones when you will communicate with them – will it be phone or text and time frame.  I found that  setting the expectation in advance that I would not be able to talk during the majority of my day helped. Depending on your time zone, having a morning chat before they head to work or school or night-time routine will keep you connected to meet their needs around the event schedule.
  • If you have events going on while you are away print any paperwork you may need to follow up with your staff on break and evening, or before class in the morning.
Promotions & Profits Retreat was created to:
  • Have our instructors share their business journey including their struggles and successes.
  • Talk real numbers and focus in on high profit decor pieces, that you can train staff to create so that you can build a business that can run without you inflating a balloon.
  • Build a network with other balloon professionals that you can reach out to when feeling frustrated, burnt out or needing help. Networking Lunch everyday as part of the program.
  • Get a boost of energy during a time that burn out can easily happen to leave motivated to rock the end of the year and start the next year fully charged!
  • Gain knowledge, our alumni who have attended with dozens of years of experience in the industry learn a new trick or procedure to make their business more efficient or increase profits.

Is FEAR Standing in the Way of Your Success?

Is FEAR standing in the way of your success?

As a Balloon Business Owner it’s good to take a look at the obstacles that stand in your way.

What is your FEAR? As you wake up today and look at your plans for the future, in reaching for your dreams, what scares you? It is OK to have fear, we all have something in our life that tends to creep up or jump out at us and keep us from becoming all that we can be. Common fears that keep us from our full potential include, FEAR of:
  • Failure
  • Speaking in public
  • Opening ourselves up to others
  • Being criticized
  • Heights
  • Snakes
  • Making a fool out of ourselves
  • Success
  • People saying no to our products (and taking that personally)

I am a bit of an expert on facing fear. Something you may not know about me is prior to my full time career in the balloon industry (since 2003), my college degree was Recreation & Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Outdoor Education. My internship (where I met my husband, Brian) was at Bradford Woods, run by the University of Indiana. Each week, we had students and corporate groups that came to the camp for Team Building and Challenge course experiences. My job as a high ropes facilitator was to tie the harness onto climbers correctly so they would not fall to their death from 100 foot platform up in the air.   I would then have the climbers on belay (a rope tied from their harness, and attached to me to guide them as they were in the air to keep them safe while facing their fears through the high ropes challenge course). Talk about an exciting job!  Each day, I helped people face their fears and celebrate with them as they accomplished the journey! Brian and I always wanted our daughter Marlee to have that same awesome feeling of being up in the tree tops and facing her fears. In 2013, our family took a trip to West Virginia to an adventure camp. First step is training:
  • What can I expect from the experience
  • What do I need to be successful and have the right equipment
  • Ask questions as needed
Next step is practice. They run a line just off the ground to learn what it will feel like up in the cable sitting in your harness. And the last step? Jump. Just go for it!               Why did I share this story with you? My hope is to inspire you to move forward…one step at a time. In 2003, I stepped out in fear and went from working full time in social work to owning a balloon decor company as my primary source of income.  This was truly a leap of faith, as I do not have a business degree and was not totally aware of all the hats I would wear as a business owner. I knew I loved balloons and creating memorable celebrations.  The rest I learned as I moved forward daily to grow a thriving business. I prepared myself for business growth by attending balloon and business training. I then applied what I learned and jumped out into networking into my local area. Sometimes I rocked it; sometimes not so much.  The key is I did not give up and look at each day as a new learning opportunity.  Over time I became known as the go to place for creative balloon decor in my area as I grew my business. In 2015 I  launched BalloonCoach.com to create resources for you that I wish were available to the balloon industry back in 2003. If you feel overwhelmed as you grow your business and would like support and training as you  face your fears head, on here are some links to help you on your journey to build a thriving balloon business. Meet Designer of the Year FLOAT 2019 Sara Meyer

Meet Designer of the Year FLOAT 2019 Sara Meyer
I met Sara in 2016 when she attended the BalloonCoach.com first Parade, Promotions & Profits workshop in Chicago, IL. I was so excited for her as I heard her name announced as Designer of the Year at FLOAT 2019. I love it when I see alumni of our programs succeed! I often wonder what motivates a growing balloon business owner to take time to plan and compete at conventions, and thought you might enjoy hearing a bit more about her journey.
How did you get started in Balloon Decor?
I was an art teacher looking for additional work in the summer, so I started working as a face painter. While at a face painting convention in St. Louis two things happened that changed the course of my business: I took a balloon class on a whim and I met Dennis Scott who ended up being one of my best friends. He helped me get started in balloons and once I realized the potential profit in decor I quickly focused my attention in that area. I attended Parade, Promotions & Profits in Chicago organized by BalloonCoach.com, where we made parade decor with Balloons by Tommy. It was the first time I had ever used a sizer, met any balloon people, or considered balloons as a business. I was so proud in that photo. The workshop gave me a new set of skills and the confidence I needed to ramp up my business!
Do you work a full time job outside of balloons?
Yes, I work full time for a college arts department. I’m the events and promotions manager so I get to work around creative people every day and plan and market fun events!
What do you like most about your balloon business?
I love so many things! I like the freedom it gives me; I choose what jobs I take and I dictate my own schedule. It’s also an awesome creative outlet. It’s connected me with so many small business owners and other balloon decorators that have become real friends. I also love the business side of it. I LOVE branding and marketing so that part is really fun for me.
What is a challenge you face as you grow your balloon business?
Right now, I’m right at the tipping point where I could go full time but I would need to find a larger work space, invest in a delivery van, and maybe an employee. Currently I’m a one woman show and because I run such a lean business I have the luxury of being picky with the jobs I take and that keeps it really fun for me. I’ve only been at it for three years so maybe one day I’ll go full time but right now I’m happy juggling both jobs.
You do some nice size decor installs. Do you have someone that assists you on your installs?
90% of the time I’m alone but my husband helps on huge jobs or on New Year’s Eve when we have 20 deliveries and installs in two days. I’ve gotten better at asking the venue or the coordinator for exactly what I need like a lift or extra hands.
What inspired you to compete at FLOAT 2019?
I went to Float 2017 and I was just a beginner, so seeing the other competition pieces was inspiring. I decided then that I would compete at the next FLOAT and I started telling people so I had some accountability. I also had two years to plan so there really wasn’t any excuse. I seem to work well under pressure and with a deadline so I knew it would be a good opportunity to push myself.
How did it feel when your name was announced as Designer of the Year?
The entire night was so fun and exciting! Not only did I place in each area in which I competed but so did many of my friends! It was like being part of a little tribe of competitors and we were all really happy for each other. I’m sure for everyone watching it seemed like a long awards ceremony, but for me it went really fast and all blurs together. I just remember my heart beating and my cheeks getting hot when they called my name. I’m so glad people took pictures because it was seriously one of the coolest nights of my life.
If someone told you they were considering competing at a balloon convention, but were unsure if they should what would you say to them?
Do it! Just jump in and figure out the details later. And design and edit and then redesign and edit. Never go with any of your first ideas, just keep thinking until you find something really unique and weird. Nothing I created was difficult…nothing was twisted or distorted. I just worked really hard to edit my work ahead of time so I had a sound design concept. Except for the foils competition where I made it up the night before! Sometimes you just run out of prep time :)
One question I like to ask companies is how are your balloons sales? Many starting out in the industry like to know what is possible.
Balloon Sales in 2016 I didn’t even keep track! Maybe 10K in sales, I was still face painting a lot this year and just starting with balloons.
Balloon Sales in 2018 75K in sales, working a full time job outside of balloons.
What are some words of wisdom you would share with someone who is struggling in growing their balloon business?
Spend more time learning how to run a business than on balloons. My first year I could only make columns…so I just sold the heck out of columns! You don’t have to be the best artist to be successful.
What do you think the “magic sauce” is that has helped with the growth of your business?
For me it has been connecting with like-minded business owners, usually other young women in the wedding business, and just being myself. Once I stopped trying to be so professional I connected so much better with other vendors and my target clients. Now I actually socialize on social media and it’s been a total game changer. “Likes” and “followers” don’t matter if no one is buying what you’re selling. Also gifting has become a huge part of my business. I send people tiny gifts when we work together and they remember that! I delivered one three-foot balloon and a hand written note to a coordinator I wanted to work with and she has booked me for 4k worth of work this year. The smallest action is better than the largest intention.
I love that Sara shared her journey and tips and hints with us. That is what the Balloon Coach Community is all about – sharing your successes and struggles along the journey so we can learn from each other to grow our businesses.
If you find yourself overwhelmed as a balloon artist and would like to create a thriving balloon business I encourage you to check out Balloon Boss Mastermind

What Do You Want to Create?

What Do You Want to Create?

Today, I’m going to share a very personal part of my journey with you. I share this as I have found that there is a big connection between our work and personal lives. They affect each other, as much as we would like them to be separate. I started in the balloon business full time in 2003 with a dream to be my own boss and a belief that anything is possible! Over the years, I have attended many wonderful balloon classes, conventions and trainings. I have met people who make a TON of money with balloons, as we as some that I would say are professional convention attendees – but the income has not followed. What is the difference? How can two people go to the exact same event, sit beside each other and one have no changes in their business while the person next to them SOARS, taking action on everything they learned? I firmly believe it all goes back to Your Attitude + Your Choices = Your Life! Some hold onto fears, doubts and believe that they cannot succeed. While others believe with all their heart that anything is possible.   What Do you want to create? What do you want your future to look like? How do you want your balloon business to be a part of that end goal? WHO is in control of making those dreams come true?   Today (10/31/18) was a first…my first Halloween without eating the candy I was passing out to the kids! I have not had a candy bar since June 16! In the midst of our 30 day road trip this summer we started eating differently. The foods I used to crave and have on the road – I walked past and chose to eat nuts and berries as my snacks instead! Today I am 51 pounds lighter than I was in June. I still have a LOT more to go to my goal of “Fit at Fifty”. (Being as big as I am, it is sometimes hard to realize the change) It is the best feeling to fit into pants I have not worn in over a year, and for shirts to start getting baggy. For the first time that I can remember I don’t have the uncontrollable desire to eat all the candy left over from Halloween! I debated if I would share this story or not…but I feel that there is someone who needs to hear this story, so I’m sharing. Each day the actions we take are a choice. WE alone are responsible for our attitude and our actions. When I look at the last year overall it’s had a crap load of challenges:
  • The hurricane a year ago damaged our roof and we had to have it replaced with a huge deductable.
  • My daughter totalled her car a week before My Dad died in January
  • We found out this summer that my Mom has Alzheimers
  • My husband has been in the hospital 3 times since July
Not exactly a challenge free year, however one thing I have found out about myself over the years is I’m a natural born problem solver. I’m not going to let the crap in life get me down. Yes I might cry, get upset, or feel depressed a bit. But what I find is when I face the challenge head on and come up with a solution to find the lesson in each challenge I have the strength to endure it and come out the other side stronger. Each day I wake up blessed to be surrounded by my amazing husband and daughter who bring me much support and joy. I have a wonderful sense of appreciation for all the friendships I have from people all around the world who I have met through being a balloon professional, and who have supported me in this wild journey of business ownership. I have a ton of challenges, but I now make the choice daily to PICK my GOALS for the long term over eating a candy bar now – or something else sweet, or the junk food I use to crave. I make different choices when we go out to eat and shop at the store. It would be “easier” to just cave in…but I choose to focus on my goals. Almost 4 years ago I took the leap of faith to sell my “baby” – my balloon business, Party People to Johnathon Gerber and to JUMP OUT of my safety net and launch BalloonCoach.com. It’s not been an easy journey there are many daily challenges to owning your own business. Each day when I get messages from my members sharing their success stories with JOY and telling me how they faced their fears and stepped out to take the action steps I suggested and landed a new client or made a new connection – I feel so proud to have set up resources that did not use to exist. The resources I wish I would of had 15 years ago! My passion is to help others grow their business to have the freedom to make their dreams a reality. And honestly often I wonder why I’m so passionate about being positive. My Dad used to tell me I would not get married because I was fat and that no one would want to marry me unless I lost weight. Boy, did I prove him wrong! My handsome husband Brian and I will be celebrating 25 years of marriage in April. ( I share this….because many times in life we let what other people tell us become our reality and let us limit our beliefs in what can be…I have a feeling someone I know needs to hear this story…not to let someone else place limits on you) What story that someone else told about you, are you letting become your reality? Each day Your Attitude, and Your Choices = YOUR LIFE What do YOU choose to create? I choose to become FIT at Fifty (9/2/2019). I choose to spread joy and encouragement to others who need to be uplifted and I choose to create a business that I am passionate about. What’s Your Dream?
