No matter if you have been working with balloons for 1 year or 25 years, be confident when you interact with clients! The photo above is from one of the many Chase Bank Grand Openings I have done in Florida. When I first got the account they used latex columns, then one year a company in California did foil balloons and they asked for the change. First I tested the balloons to see how they reacted to the direct sun and heat as I wanted to be confident in the decor I was providing. Over the years I have done a lot of grand openings for Chase, it paid off to take the extra time and make sure I was inflating properly to last for the 2 days requested. ****SIDE NOTE to those NEW to Balloon Decor. If you are new to the industry PLEASE get training, practice, and learn to create quality decor before providing decor for payment so our industry can continue to look professional as an industry! For the beginner, professional balloon decor is sized properly, uses supports that are stable, and has proper scale and color. Why Confidence Sells! 1. When you are on the phone with a client, they want to hear it in your voice that you know what you are doing. 2. The excitement in your voice and knowledge in your descriptions makes a client feel comfortable choosing you as their balloon vendor. 3. Clients like to think that they are getting the BEST service. If you are nervous, stuttering or saying uhm uhm, and not sure of what you can provide for the client, they will be able to tell through your words and choose to go with another company. 4. An “I can do that” attitude will help you grow your business! How to Build YOUR Confidence 1. TRAINING *Conventions There are wonderful balloon conventions and seminars throughout the world. Two of my favorite are FLOAT convention and World balloon Convention. Create an education savings account to cover costs of travel and registration. *DVD’s During the time between classes and conventions, you can invest in DVD’s. The producer of FLOAT conventions owns and many of the instructors from the convention and top entertainers and decorators have a variety of DVD’s in his library for you to choose from. The greatest thing with a DVD is you can replay it as many times as you need or use the pause button. Many balloon distributors carry other training DVD’s. 2. PRACTICE Invest in your company. Get balloons, framing supplies, inflating and sizing equipment and practice designs to test your skills! Then take photos of your work to build your portfolio. If you wish for balloons to create an income for you, it’s just like any other business, where you invest in the company, supplies and training. 3. EXPERIENCE with paying clients. Sell….Sell…Sell…do not just wait around for your phone to ring. Get out and about and find clients. 4. Networking with other Balloon Professionals. Is there a QBN chapter in your area? Network with other Balloon Professionals at conventions and trainings. 5. Business Coaching There are Life coaches and business coaches all over the world. Christmas in July!

While the sun is shining bright, you might be planning a family getaway to the beach. It often seems out of place to receive your catalogs from suppliers full of Christmas balloons and designs. I love looking through the Christmas catalogs to see the new designs and which favorites from last season are still available! July and August are my best times to contact my past December clients and reach out to new customers.

In December 2013, two of my corporate events were in the same venue; one on Friday, the other Saturday. We installed Organza to the ceiling that stayed the same for both events, but changed out the balloon decor and centerpieces to make the events different. Both clients had booked us a year in advance, so I knew their dates were back to back as I met with them and offered several selections to both clients using the same colors.

To learn more about installing fabric decor, follow this link for my step by step DVD’s Fundamentals of Fabric Here is how I stay so busy at the holidays: 1. In December, when I do the events, I have the clients book for the following year to ensure availability for their date. 2. Contact the client in July with suggestions for this year’s designs and have them pay their deposit so their specialty designs can be ordered before they are out of stock. I keep all the product for that event boxed up with the company name and date of the event. 3. Approach new Holiday clients via phone, networking meetings, email and online marketing. 4. Offer fabric draping, backdrops and custom centerpieces that accent the balloon decor. If you stay busy enough with balloons alone or have other vendors in your area that offer fabric decor services, team up with those vendors so you can work together on events. 5. Greetings from FLOAT 2015 in Chilly St. Louis Missouri!

My Mother, Terry and I arrived in St. Louis on Friday morning and jumped into “find the boxes mode” to locate promotional materials we had send to the convention.

It’s been great to see FLOAT Family members new and old and start answering the question, “What is” is a new resource for the balloon industry, to help you Inflate Your Profits!

Please know that the website is Brand NEW and will have many more features over time.

Main services currently offered is Personalized business coaching, from someone who has owned their own balloon decor company for 11 years. I know what it’s like to be in the trenches of wearing all the hats, and not sure what to do first to increase sales volumes and how to get everything done at once! I have had the wonderful blessing of networking with some of the industries most successful companies, and putting many of those business practices to work to see my sales increase each year.

HOW will I have time to Coach? As of January 1st, 2015 I became the Marketing Director of Party People Celebration Co, now excited to coach Johnathon Gerber as the new owner of the company!
